Cougar Chronicles
The Cougar Stadium just turned 31 years old

The President of Goodpasture in 1977 was Dr. Ruhl. The determination of him and the Booster Club got our Cougar Stadium built. There were too many to list in the program I got this information from that helped with this project but the key to it all was Dr. Ruhl and the Booster Club.

Dr. RuhlBooter Club

Before this hard work was performed, from 1972-1976, our Cougars played all of their home games at Isaac Litton High Litton High School AirealSchool. But after a few years, the Mighty Cougars wanted a home field on their own campus and that is where Dr. Ruhl and the Booster Club came in. At that particular time in history another historic football Maplewood and Goodpasture Standsteam was going through some changes. That school was the Maplewood High School Panthers who were located about 5 or 10 miles away from Goodpasture.

Their circumstances were somewhat different though. The state needed a Parkway Interstate and it’s location was going to go right through the Panthers Football field. Ellington Parkway was built, Maplewood had it’s new stadium built on another part of it’s campus.

Goodpasture at that time, purchased Maplewood’s football stands from the Metro-Government. The Football stands, made of pre-stressed concrete and were assembled at Cougar Stadium on the West side of their playing field, which is the home side.  The Cougars bought and installed new stands on the east side of the playing field for their visitor’s stands.

In 1977 Cougar Stadium seated 2,000 people. Today, after 2 major additions of 1,600 seats in the stadium now seats it’s present amount of 3,600 seats. Practically every game is a sellout. Such attendance attests to the support of Cougar Fans.

Home Stands and Press Box

The Booster Club then built a modern pressPress Box up Close box and a concession stand.

Next it purchased a Scoreboard and a ultra modern sound system.
